MOUNTCREST UNIVERSITY COLLEGE (MCU) STUDENT, GUEST SPEAKER AT THE UNIVERSITY OF GHANA 2019 CONGREGATION

Ms. Linda Sarah Selby, a student studying LLB Law at MCU was the Guest Speaker at Legon’s 2019 Congregation, on Friday 15th November , 2019 at the Legon campus.

She addressed the audience on the art of combining hard and soft skills for a successful career.

Ms. Selby who is the Acting Head of Remedial and Recovery Department of the Universal Merchant Bank (UMB) in her speech said, the hard skills such us area of studies, work experience and training, form fifteen percent of the expertise needed for a successful carrier.

She also said that the soft skills were necessary to propel the graduands to the apex of their chosen career and social life.

“Your soft skills will separate you from your peers” she said.  These skills include team spirit, courteousness, adaptability, inter-personal skills, work ethics, flexibility, confidence and problem solving skills.

Furthermore, she added that, the graduands needed to adopt and practice emotional intelligence such as empathy and sympathy.

 These soft skills she said were inherent and could also be acquired. She encouraged all to go out into the world with a unique soft skill and make a difference.
